Seven Sorrows of Mary Rosary
“Behold, and see if there be any sorrow like unto my sorrow.” — Lamentations 1:12
The Seven Sorrows Rosary is a meditation upon the suffering of the Blessed Virgin Mary as she followed her Son from the prophecy of Simeon to the darkness of Calvary and, finally, to the tomb.
Unlike the traditional five-decade Rosary, this devotion is arranged around seven groups of seven beads, each recalling one of the Seven Sorrows of Mary: the Prophecy of Simeon, the Flight into Egypt, the Loss of the Child Jesus in the Temple, Mary Meeting Jesus on the Way to Calvary, the Crucifixion and Death of Jesus, Mary Receiving the Body of Jesus, and the Burial of Christ.
The design reflects the solemnity of the devotion. Black stained wood beads evoke mourning and grief, while deep red Carnelian gemstone beads mark each Sorrow and recall the Precious Blood shed by Christ during His Passion. Black paracord completes the stark, penitential palette.
A silver-toned Mater Dolorosa medal accompanies the rosary, depicting Our Lady of Sorrows and providing a tangible reminder of the Mother who remained with Christ even at the foot of the Cross.
The Seven Sorrows invite us not merely to contemplate suffering, but to enter more deeply into the Passion of Christ through the heart of His Mother—to remain with her where so many fled, and through her sorrow to draw nearer to her Son.
Our Lady of Sorrows, pray for us.
