Description
CERTIFIED ORGANIC 1 packet (500 seeds)
Daucus carota Nash’s Best carrots were bred to be sweet while retaining a true carrot flavor. A multipurpose cross between a Nantes (preferred for fresh eating) and a Danvers (with more body and flavor for juicing and cooking). Boasts a strong leafy top to shade out weeds and resist breakage during harvest. Bred in the Pacific Northwest by farmer breeder, Nash Huber, they hold up to early freeze/thaw cycles to sweeten to peak flavor; hold well for winter storage.
Growing Notes
Direct seed as soon as soil can be worked in spring– through mid-summer. Optimal soil temp for germination is 55-75℉. Plant 1/4-1/2″ deep; thin to 1-2″ (depending on desired size) with >18″ between rows. For optimal growth, make sure soil is loose and free of stones and debris. Weeding shortly after germination allows slow-growing carrot seedlings a better start.

Living in the northern area of the country, it’s harder to find seed distributors that have seed proven to do well in northern climates. This company does exactly that. These carrots are no exception. They produce well in our short summers in northern Michigan and are very tasty. Saving seed for biennial producers like carrots and cabbage can be tricky and is something I’m still learning to succeed at in our unpredictable winters. Dan and Theresa do a great job at saving good seed with high germination rates and are willing to help others learn. This is a great business to support!
